A letter from Sweet Briar College's admission committee to Susan Souby. The letter's writer, Evelyn Munger, addresses the transition from Ward-Belmont to Harpeth Hall and wishes good luck to Mrs. Souby on the school's future.Context
In 1951, the Tennessee Baptist Convention (TBC) acquired Ward-Belmont in their efforts to create a strong Christian college to further their religious mission. After much uncertainty, Ward-Belmont was transformed into an undergraduate institution, with the Preparatory School and Junior College coming to a close. Locals garnered support to establish a new college preparatory school called Harpeth Hall. In September 1951, Harpeth Hall opened under former Ward-Belmont preparatory principal Susan Souby's leadership along with several other former Ward-Belmont faculty members.Collection
