A program for a Ward-Belmont school dance recital held on Friday evening, March 9, 1945, at 8:15. Presented by Students of the Dance with Mary Elizabeth Delaney as instructor and Alma Baskerville as accompanist. The recital consisted of two parts, with five dances in Part I and six dances in Part II. The names of performers are listed in the program alongside their respective dance numbers.Context
Mary Elizabeth Delaney, originally from Boston, was the dance director and instructor at Ward-Belmont beginning in 1938. She took a yearlong leave of absence in 1943, and returned to Ward-Belmont in 1944 and 1945. She graduated from the Chalif Normal School of Dancing in New York City, and also attended Emerson College of Oratory in Boston. After leaving Ward-Belmont, she went on to be director of dance at the Mississippi State College for Women.
Alma Baskerville served as the school pianist in 1945. She was a graduate of Sullins Junior College, and also studied at Peabody College.Collection
