Scope and Content

The 2002 program for the George Washington Day Celebration put on by the class of 2007 when they were in the seventh grade. The celebration was dedicated to the men and women serving in the US Armed forces and the heroes of 9/11, the firefighters, EMTs, police, volunteers and victims who sacrificed themselves for freedom. George Washington was played by eighth grader Grace Herbert (2006) and Martha Washington was played by eighth grader Mary Katherine Bartholomew Geismar (2006). Context

The George Washington Day Celebration was a tradition that began at Belmont College for Young Women, developed into a costume ball and dance at Ward-Belmont, and was transferred to Harpeth Hall, where it continued as a special all-school program performed by Middle School students until 2020.
