Letter to Executive Board Of Tennessee Baptist ConventionEntry/Object ID
2023.314Description
Letter to the Executive Board of the Tennessee Baptist Convention. The letter argues that the TBC handled the proposal of the merger of Cumberland University and Ward-Belmont very poorly, and that they overlooked the effects of the merger. The letter notes that there is no reason to believe a coed Baptist college would be able to compete with the other coed colleges in the Nashville area. The writer of the letter also questions why the TBC wants to reestablish a well-loved school as a Baptist college when the state of Tennessee already has three Baptist schools. The Board's intentions for purchasing the Ward-Belmont property are called into question. Did they purchase it simply because they needed a new office space or did they always intend to insert their beliefs into the school's mission?Collection
