Context

[Bartlett, OH, to Mr. J. H. Harris, Ada, Ohio, Box 479] Bartlett O., Apr. 13, '95. Mr. J. H. Harris, Ada, O. Dear Joe: — This lovely day I grasp the pen to talk a little while. Your letter was rec'd Thur. and I believe it carried much of the inspiration from the convention with it. But I fear you are mistaken when you say you think I could appreciate the surroundings better than you. I surely think that would be irony? I have thought a great deal about the value such opportunities will be to you. It seems to me there is nothing which so helps us as the associations with great and good people, which one is sure to find at such places. I would surely feel quite mossyfied in society just now but I hope to wear some of it off by the time commencement is over. As to attending the normal term at Ada, nothing would be more enjoyable but my thoughts in that direction are deeper than my pocket-book. But I feel that it has indeed been a great blessing to me to know that I had to make my own way through life for riches would surely have been the ruination of me if any thing would. But I need not worry myself or any one else concerning this subject. I have heard nothing from Hannah yet so I do not know certain as to going there this summer. I surely feel to sympathize with you in your decisions but I will give no advice for I think such things ate best decided by one's self. If I could only use the trowel in your place this summer, it would be just the thing. But I am afraid they would not give me the wages that you got however I believe I will not undertake it. I am sure we will be glad to see Leonard back again. I did not intend for you to bother about that song book. I wanted to write to Prof. Smith myself, but if you send it I will make it all right with you. Charley Hanson is quite sick. The Dr. has pronounced it heart trouble and thinks he is quite dangerous. As to visiting me you make your arrangements and I think I can make mine suit them all right. Sam says tell you I am going to town for a buggy ride this afternoon. Your Loving Bertha
