Context

Chesterhill Ohio Nov. 5th 1927 Mr. Joe Harris Westerville Ohio Dear Sir. A few weeks ago while visiting in Athens, I met Mrs. Margaret Harris. During our conversation she spoke of her mother in law Nancy Harris. I told her that Nancy Harris was my great grandmother's sister, and asked if she could help me in finding out some family history. She told me to write to you, that you were much interested in the tracing of the records of the Work family. It is in the Work side of the family that I am interested. Some years ago aunt Nancy Harris visited me here in Chesterhill and she told me all I know about the family history but could give no dates except that of the death of my great grandmother Sarah Ann Work wife of Isaac Clendenon which occurred Oct. 1840. She was aunt Nancy's sister their mother was Theodate Todd, father David Work. Maternal grandmother Rebecca Hodyear or Hodgear. Maternal grandfather Wm. Todd. Paternal grandmother Maryann Porterfield. Paternal grandfather David Work. There is a David Work buried in the cemetery here in Chesterhill the date on the gravestone is 1847, can it be my great grandmother's father? My grandmother was Eliza Clendenon Stubbs [End of Page 1] my father was William Stubbs he died many year[s] ago. I would surely appreciate any information you could give. I have heard the story from my grandmother also from yours about a David Work who was an unusually tall man who served in the Revolutionary War as one of Washington's body guard[s]. Thanking you for any trouble this will cause you also I will be glad to pay for any information you may be able to give. I am Very truly yours, {Jennie Crew} [End of Letter]
