Context

[Westerville, OH, to Mr. J. H. Harris, Ada, Ohio, Lock Box 28] Westerville O., Jan. 26 '96 Mr. J. H. Harris, Ada O. My Dear Joe: — Your welcome message reached me last evening and found me much better. I believe some of the rest have been violating nature's laws, for today Elsie & Carrie are on the sick list also quite a number of the students so I have plenty of company and that suits misery. I was at our “Prep.” prayermeeting this afternoon and expect to enter school again tomorrow. It seems like I have been out of school almost a month, and I believe I will know better how to appreciate it now. The meeting begins again tonight, but so many of us are sick that no one attended. You asked some time ago about a work on U.B. missions. I have found nothing that I think you would want but possibly I can find something yet. I was very glad to hear you express yourself as you did, concerning your work. That is a thought that has been with me a great deal of late, and I too have felt that we must know soon. It seems to me there are countless opportunities which pass by unimproved because of that unsettled question. And yet I would not urge you to hasten a decision too soon nor would I want you to decide sooner on my account that otherwise. I have been urged somewhat to make a decision but could not do it as yet. O may we just get so near to God that we can hear the whisperings of his voice in all things. Emerson says “Our talent is our calling,” and that we often choose some work without thinking whether we are wanted in that work. You know our question for debate was regarding a profession, and as I could not go to society Miss Barnes came out yesterday and we debated it here. I think Mr. Brodnax's letter very helpful, I will return it at once, thank you for sending it. I will now have some back work to make up which will keep me busy this week. Trusting that the Holy Spirit may guide our very thoughts and actions. I remain Your loved one Bertha.
