Context

[Plantsville, OH, to Mr. J. H. Harris, Ada, Ohio, Box 479] Plantsville O., Mch. 23, '95. Mr. J. H. Harris, Ada, O. Dear Joe: — Once more I come to spend a few moments with you in this quiet one sided way, but how much pleasanter it would be to spend it with you in person. This is such a slow unhandy way for I am not accustomed to doing all the talking, although I guess I mostly do my share. Your letter received on Thur. You surely have your hands full of work. I presume you will profit by my mistake and not try to undertake too much, at least I hope so. I began my school again last Mon. It is much smaller than before it was closed and consequently much easier, but I was so sorry it had to close, as most of the large boys thought it was getting so late that it would not pay to start in again and I presume it deprived them of at least a month of school. I have two more months of school, I can not help but begin to wonder how I will spend the summer. At least I want it to be in some way profitable to myself and others. Mother and Otterbein went home Thur. evening, and I am left alone once more to fight life;s battles and decide matters for myself. What a great school life is, and what precious lessons experience teaches us? Although it is a sacrifice to be deprived of home and loved ones, yet what a blessing to learn to depend on self. I can not estimate the value of this years work to me, while it was such a sacrifice to think of leaving home, and its surroundings, it has brought many blessings which I could not have enjoyed at home. W. W. R. has sold his upper place to Mr. Love so I presume there is no chance left for us. I presume there will be no tears shed. Joe Jones has also bought Frank Hanson's place. Mon. At School — This is surely a Mch. day in earnest. Yesterday I went to See Walter Embree. Poor boy! How hard it must be to think of giving up life so young. He is growing weaker every day and he will doubtless never be any better. I close by again asking God's blessing upon us. Lovingly Bertha N.B. You need not change address of the Herald.
