Westerville O., Jan. 12, '96.
Mr. J. H. Harris,
Ada O.
My Darling Joe: — I have just reread your letter for a new inspiration, and will now spend a short time with you in thought and conversation. This has been a busy and happy day.
I have attended five services, and we had six callers this afternoon. I do not see why the people persist in that kind of work for I have just made one call on Sun. this year, (this school year I mean).
We started our Prep. prayer meetings this afternoon, and had such a good meeting. Our revival services began tonight. I think this place surely needs a baptism of the Holy Spirit if any place ever did, and I am praying that we have it, especially in my own heart. Last evening we had a C.E. social in the society halls. Every one seemed to enjoy it and I hope it will do some lasting good. Mr. Baer is here if I am rightly informed. Tonight one of the boys sitting near him said after church, “I will help you with your overcoat if I can get up there.” He is in my Latin & Greek, and looks at me as if be might have heard of me. Of course you wonder what I am doing in school. I am almost sorry to tell you for I know you will be disappointed, but it was the best I could do this term. I have the regular college work & Mrs. Cornetet's lessons. The faculty would not give me any reduction by taking only two studies as I thought they would and I just thought I would not please them enough to pay that and for music also and then only take half work. They claimed it was because I had a reduction already, but I have known them to grant it to others. So my studies are Latin, Greek, Geometry, and Rhetoric. I think I will have a very interesting pupil in music, which will give me plenty of practice in voice if I can only find the time for it. I gave two lessons last week.
I have almost decided to wait until I get a little farther in the course and then take music alone as I can not arrange it well with my other studies. What do you think about it? I think it will be very nice for me to do the traveling this year, for that just suits me. But I have an idea you will get anxious between my visits and come to Westerville in spite of leap year. I was most agreeably inspired to think of seeing you in eight weeks. Let me know when you are coming and I shall try and have something special going on so the students can get a good look at you.
Mr. Cornetet does not room here so you need not worry. Prof. Miller has not asked about you as yet, but he smiles very friendly quite frequently, and thinks a great deal.
I will send that book on Bible study if I can find an envelope large enough. Keep it as long as you wish. There may be some mistakes in the references as I copied after the lessons. Ira has just returned from Dempsey's and the rest are asleep so I must say good night. Please pray for the success of our meeting.
Happy dreams,
Your Bertha.
