Mr. Elmer Dille,
Bartlett, Washington County, Ohio.
Dear friend and Cousin:
For several years I have been working, as time permits, on the genealogy of the Harris tribe. I have made three visits to the families of Uncle George and Uncle Amos Dille in West Virginia and decided to try to get something on the Dille-Linscott families.
On these visits I got Uncle George started to telling about these families and I took notes. Lest the matter might get away from me, I have outlined that information the best I can. It is crude in form and certainly very incomplete. I am very anxious to get the main facts straightened out to leave with the family when I pass on.
Uncle George Dille is the only one living of Lewis Dille's children. I am sending to Uncle George an outline, adding to it all the children of Lewis Dille and in addition to that, I am giving the families of Uncle Amos and Uncle George. Uncle George may be entirely mistaken about some of these matters, as he gave them simply from memory. I would like to get, as nearly as possible, place and date of birth, to whom and date of marriage, place and date of death, and place and name of cemetery where buried.
Additional information would be appreciated. For example, your father and Uncle Squire were in the Civil War. If you can tell what regiments they were in, where they served and other facts, I shall be glad to write it up more fully. I think we should try to be very accurate and not accept tradition and hearsay until verified.
Uncle George says Absolom Dille #4 married Mercy Linscott. Do you know what Linscott this was? Can you give me the names of one or more persons in each of these Dille-Linscott families who can give such information? Perhaps you may see some of David R. Dille's children, who can speak for that family. Perhaps

you have or know of family Bibles that would have the information. I think Howard has one of the Dille Bibles and I shall ask him if there is anything there.
The next time you are in Mt. Hermon Cemetery, notice the marker for your grandmother Dille. As soon as possible I want to get into the Hermon neighborhood and if so, will try to see you. I hope you will get busy at once. Write me any information you may secure and I shall have it typed here and send a copy to you.
Note on the chart that I have scarcely no dates at all. I do have the dates of the Lewis Dille family. Soon you and I will be gone and our children have no knowledge of these generations with whom we have had some touch. Let us follow this matter until we get some definite information.
Note on the chart of the Linscott family I may not have them in proper order. If you do not have the information, where can I get it? To whom shall I write? Let me hear from you soon as to what you think of the possibilities. I feel that a little story of those old heroes and heroines, who carved out a home in the wilderness, certainly ought to have some kind of recognition. If I were able to do it, I would have the facts printed.
Thanking you for what I believe you will do in this matter and wishing choice blessings to rest upon you, I beg to remain
Very sincerely yours,
