Dear Joe: — Your letter of the 29th at hand. It was indeed a welcome guest. I had begun to fear some cruel fate had befallen my Joe. I am truly glad to know you are enjoying one of the greatest privileges in student life, and I have not the least doubt but that such an opportunity is being appreciated and improved to the best of your ability.
I feel that this will surely mark an epoch in your life that it will be of untold benefit to you in more ways than one. I wrote you last Sun which I presume you will get today. I presume I will get word the last of this week or the first of next what time you will be here.
Please do not think of your appearance, no one would expect it to be so exact after coming so far. It is not that I wish to see, it is your real self. I shall try and comply with your wishes in my preparation. I wish you a pleasant day on this sacred birthday of our nation.
We will have some ice cream this evening. I wish you were here to enjoy it with us.
You need not fear that any one will be intruding on your rights.
Hoping to see you soon and praying that God may direct your thoughts and plans, I remain
Your own true,
Bertha Lambert.
