[Westerville, OH, to Mr. J. H. Harris, Circleville, Ohio]
Westerville, O., Sept. 20, '96
Mr. J. H. Harris
Circleville O.
My Darling Joe: — While the rest are all at church I will spend this quiet hr. with you. This morning I went to S.S. and church, at 2 P.M. attended the Volunteer Band and at six went to C.E. I could hardly have the sand to come home then but I feel that it is too much to attend so many services.
Mr. Pyle, a former student here was to preach tonight. I think (with D. I.) that Westerville is just the place now. It seems to me I never realized the blessings of college life as I do just at the present.
Although I am just loaded down with committee work I feel that it is doing me more good than any other work could for my future work. To help it all out they have given me a class of some of the worst boys in S.S. to try my hand on, but that too is just what I need. So I will begin my mission work here in Otterbein. I am very anxious for you to enter school for I know you will enjoy it so much better than your present work. But do not think me complaining in any way because you are not here for you know what is best and will do it as far as possible. If we trust in God I know there will be some way. I feel that the Volunteer Band is doing me so much good. It meets every Sun. at 2 P.M. We have in our band this year Mr. Calker, a native of Africa who was educated at our mission school there. He was sent over to complete his education, and is a very bright student. Frank Edwards also goes to college so we have tow from our own missions and they are such an inspiration in all the work, and can tell us more than we would learn from books in a long time.
Central O. Conference convenes this week at Columbus. I want to attend one service if possible. The young people have a rally on Wed. and I want to attend that.
Since I came home Mr. Oakes' have lost their little girl who was about two years old. She was such a sweet child and so very bright but God wanted her for his kingdom. I rec'd such a nice letter from one of my little scholars at Iberia. It did me good to know I was remembered by them.
Now you must not worry about your work for I am sure you have done better than any of the agents who went out from W. and I believe it will turn out all right. Let us trust God fully and he can open the way.
Your own true one
Bertha Lambert.
