Context

9-15-1988 Dear Richard: Greetings! We appreciated your letter so very much. In about the same mail we got a letter from Ed Burtner and he too thinks about you a lot and wants you to have the very very best of treatment. There are thousands of us out here with similar sentiments! Right now visiting us from Tenn., mutual friend Fred Norris whose By-Pass was done about 10 weeks ago and he is so glad he signed up for it. He looks just fine! The angina which had plagued him for 10 years before the surgery seems to be gone. So add his case to the case of your Columbus Schoedinger. Of course this is invasive treatment but it often is like a gift from heaven as far as the end results are concerned. Please keep us posted as to decisions, plans of action, etc. etc. Sara Kate Kelser is also here. Her first trip to Wisc. She keeps tab on you thru mutual friends. We are having a great reunion and talking about the good old days at WHS! As for me, things are still stable! No pain, good appetite, no weight loss, good sleeping pattern and so I can continue to work on the History of Ryder Hospital. I had wanted to have a rough draft of the book finished by the end of this month but I am running a bit behind schedule so it will be later than that! We are most grateful for each of these good days! May they last for a long time to come. Well, take good care of your self, Richard, and keep us posted. Thanks again for the good letter. WE send the choicest of personal greetings and best wishes! Shalom! J&V Smith
