Context

276 Forest St Oberlin O. July 15 '49. My Dear Boy: Time rolls on around here and I suppose it goes on in Columbus & elsewhere. I had a letter from Carrie written on Sun. She said she heard James preach a goon sermon on Sun. but there were no flutterings from the stork as yet. Caroline seemed to be in good condition and Susie had recovered from her trouble. Dr. decided it was swollen glands in here neck caused the temperature. A letter from Margie and all were well as usual. We hear from Dan quite often and he is very busy helping interpret the language, coaching operas & etc & etc. He will have four more weeks of work there. A letter from Gertrude Bartlett today. She is still out at her country home — I think is trying to sell it. I fear she is in very critical condition. Is not able to do any thing but get a bite to eat and drive to the doctors. I think she is planning to go with Ida at the Montgomery farm. I also had a letter from Aunt Minnie and Ella is in the hospital in Janesville. I believe she had an operation for gall bladder, but was still very ill. A letter from Carrie said she would be back in Westerville about the 18 where she expects to see Phil. Thank you for the pictures — My "Barber of Seville" hat takes a good picture. Danny was pleased with his pictures. Mary Hannum, the girl who has been here leaves in the morning. Her boy friend came for her. Dan has the car with him so we are not doing any driving, but neighbors have been thoughtful to help with shopping. Stacey's are going to Mich. to see their daughter soon. I hope Aletha & children can go over and meet Dan and drive back with him. Take good care of my boy and send me a line or call me some time. I am always praying that the very best in life may come to you With love Mother.
