[Athens, OH, to Miss Bertha E. Lambert, Westerville, Ohio, “Franklin Co.”]
Box 219, Athens, Ohio.
June 6, 1896.
Miss Lambert,
Westerville, Ohio.
My Darling Bertha: I hope this bright morning finds you feeling well and caught up somewhat with your sleep.
I arrived safe 8:35 last evening. I went sound asleep on the St. car yesterday out some distance from Col. and did not waken until we came almost to High St.
I found Carlos here ready to talk me until 10:30. Our parting yesterday seemed the saddest and most difficult of any yet. This visit seemed so very real to me; doubtless because we were meeting each other now and then just as we would be likely to do in home life {ie} working together, only I hope you may never have so much work to do as you have had for a few days. I will try to meet the fellows here today and then will likely go to Marietta Monday, but perhaps you had better send mail to Athens and then it will be forwarded, or if having company you are too busy to write you might wait until I go to Marietta, but I can't think of waiting very long so if you have opportunity to write tomorrow you might do so and it will be forwarded at once.
I hope you may have a nice time during Commencement and then I think you ought to take a wk. or more to be just as lazy as you can be, not studying a bit.
If you please you might hand the enclosed not to Ottie.
I will write more next time. Tell Carrie how much we thought of her while eating cream. I wanted to look for her yesterday, but did not know which way to look. Please remember me to Mr. & Mrs. Mayne.
Your Lover,
J. H. Harris.
P.S. Perhaps it might be well for you to put your Box No. and Office on your letter so they may not get a model love letter at the Dead Letter Office at Wash D.C.
