Context

[Plantsville, OH, to Miss Bertha Lambert, Westerville, Ohio, “Franklin Co.”] Plantsville, O. Dec. [23], 1895. Miss Lambert, Westerville, O. My Dear Sweet-heart: Seated at the home desk mid the blessings of home I take this opportunity of telling you that I am having a better time than anybody. We walked from the function Saturday night through mud, some rain etc. Was at Hermon twice yesterday. It was preaching day, but the preacher did not come so they gave the time to me. I gave a short talk last evening to the Y.P.C.U. on Bible study. I talked Carlos and Charley until 2 o'clock Friday night, the folks at home until 11:30 Sat. night, and father last night until 1:30. I shall call at Iddo's, Elijah's, and Frank's today. No one congratulated me as they did you nor have they said anything to me about it, but they are thinking a great deal all the same. I saw Alva and Sam's folk but they all seemed to be afraid to say anything concerning your folks. I thought Grace acted a little afraid of me. I presume it will be best to hold our visit next Sat — Monday. If I can reach the morning train I will get to Col before noon Sat. I wish you were here with me. I think we could have such a nice visit. I hope you are having a nice time. I have not forgotten you dear, but keep looking forward to our visit. I suppose Alva will be with you about the time this reaches you. As my time is limited and we have a caller I must close for this time. May God watch over my sweet-heart until we meet. Devotedly yours J. H. Harris. Christmas Gift! Be a good girl.
