Dear Paul:
Thank you for your letter of May 31, 1992, and for the photos taken at the First Presbyterian Church in Westfield. We were in New Jersey a little over a year ago and spent some time in Westfield and Scotch Plains, Elizabeth and Newark. We also took some pictures, but they did not turn out as well as yours. I visited the New Jersey Historical Society (and joined for a year) but nothing of startling interest turned up. I did, however, talk to two ladies who are also researching Lamberts, albeit on a different line, and am expecting to see them again in Baltimore at the National Genealogical Society Conference next Spring.
Betty Knapp gave me your name quite some time ago, so I know you are in touch with her. Can't help but wonder how much of my research she has passed on to you. Not that I mind — I don't — but I wonder if you have the material which I garnered from the college library at Swarthmore. If you don't have it, I‘ll be glad to send it. It is more of historical, rather than genealogical interest, because it's from the minutes of the Quaker meetinghouse, in Ohio.
Also, I'm wondering if you have, or want, anything on Barclay Lambert who came, to Missouri with Albert and Elizabeth in l864—5. Elwood came with them, but I feel you probably have the California material on him. Do you have his Civil War records? When I was a child, we lived in Missouri and, of course, some of the other children in school were named Lambert, but we did not know how we were related. Now, of course, I know we were double cousins as they were descended from Barclay and Asenith, Asenith being Elizabeth's sister and Barclay being Albert's first cousin. No one bothered to sort it out for us at the time, if they even knew it themselves.
I can't help but wonder if, on your Pedigree Chart where you have "Pennsville", do you mean "Plantsville"? I could not find Pennsville on the map. However, I have visited the cemetery at Plantsville. If you have not, and someday have the chance, please visit that cemetery. I walked in the gate and here were all these names — familiar names — it was like visiting a ghost city. It's actually called Bethel Cemetery, I believe. It was over six years ago and I did not have a camera with me, nor did I make adequate records. Six years has made a great deal of difference in the way I do things, genealogically speaking.
Concerning Abner, son of John and Elizabeth, do you have any proof other than Betty's parchment book of that descendency? Recently, a book was published on Josiah Lambert/Joanna Woodward, Josiah being a descendant of Roger Lambert. They finally settled in Ironton OH after trying West Virginia; they came from New Jersey. No connection was shown to our line, however. Bruce Love published a book on Somerton, Belmont Co., OH, and a book has also come out on the Little Hocking, Washington Co., OH. Have you seen either of these books?
Certainly, I am more than willing to share correspondence on the Lamberts. You will note that it has been almost six months since your letter. Within six mos. IS good for me. If you wish to accept that, we are "off and running."

You will also note we do not have a computer. There is no question but that we will be forced to get one, but not yet.
Enclosed is a copy of my pedigree chart.
By the way, is there anything in your records on the Monroe family? In the Manhattan, IL area I have an aunt and uncle, Aaron and Lillie Greenwood. He is my mother's oldest brother. She is not only my aunt by marriage, but also a first cousin, daughter of one of my father's sisters who married a Monroe descended from John and Matilda Lambert Monroe. If you have anything on them, I sure would appreciate your sharing it with me.
Also, what do you show on all the different Isaac Lamberts that have shown up over the years? Especially the one in Daniel's Will.....you do have that one, don't you? - {the will, I mean.}
My grandfather Robert O. Greenwood was adopted by Oscar and Harriet Greenwood of Will County. He was born in Chicago in 1872 but as of right now I still do not have any of the records connected with that adoption. He was adopted in 1874, of Irish descent, in a large family where the children were put up for adoption after their mother died. At least, that is "tradition."
Thank you again for writing, and I do appreciate the photos.
Sincerely,
{Lu Williams}
