CHILDREN OF RICHARD AND BEULAH (THOMAS) HARRIS The following notes were given by Mrs. Nancy Harris and John W. Harris to J. H. Harris: Rebeccah Harris was born at Mt. Pleasant, Jefferson County, Ohio, August 7, 1805, married to George G. King February 25, 1830, died at Chesterhill, Ohio, July 8, 1847, buried at Chesterhill, Ohio. She was a good, quiet, indulgent woman. Sarah Harris, born October 3, 1806, at Mt. Pleasant, Jefferson County, Ohio, married William Alloway March 16, 1827, died February 21, 1887. Her second marriage was to Thomas DeWeese November 6, 1845. Mary Harris, born December 2, 1807, at Mt. Pleasant, Jefferson County, Ohio, died August 2, 1820 of some kind of throat disease. Anna Harris, born November 7, 1809, at Mt. Pleasant, Jefferson County, Ohio, died January 22, 1810. Watson Harris, born August 3, 1812, at Mt. Pleasant, Jefferson County, Ohio, married to Nancy Work April 9, 1835, died at Chesterhill, Ohio, April 29, 1871. Jonathon F. Harris, born November 28, 1814 at Mt. Pleasant, Jefferson County, Ohio, married to Emily B. DeWeese March 31, 1836, died October 1, 1852 at his home in Stockport, Ohio. Was buried at Pennsville, Ohio, in the Friends Cemetery. Very quiet in disposition, upright in character, owned some property. Had a limited education, a rough carpenter by trade, a shingle maker. Continued in the Friends faith until death. Sydney Harris, born March 18, 1817 at Mt. Pleasant, Jefferson County, Ohio, married to John Balderson April 2, 1833, and died northwest of Stockport on January 16, 1852. She was a good mother, calm in disposition. Juliann Harris, born May 17, 1819, at Mt. Pleasant, Jefferson County, Ohio, and died August 10, 1820, of throat trouble. Jordan P. Harris, born August 1, 1821, at Mt. Pleasant, Jefferson County, Ohio, married to Mary F. DeWeese November 6, 1845, died April 19, 1858 on a farm near the road leading from Amesville to Canaanville, and was buried in the Bethel United Brethren Church Cemetery in Ames Township, Athens County, Ohio. He was a man of ordinary size, fine appearance, a man of sterling character, made a good living, but did not accumulate. Had a fair education, taught [End of Page 1] school at Glazier District, Ames Township, Athens County, Ohio. Converted during his last illness. He was an expert stone mason and cutter by trade. Died of Tuberculosis. Eli Harris, born May 9, 1823, at Mt. Pleasant, Jefferson County, Ohio, married to Evalina Marris (Morris), died at New Plymouth, Ohio, January 21, 1889. He owned his home and had a limited education. A man of strong and sterling character, member of the Presbyterian Church. John W. Harris relates that he talked to Eli's pastor, who said he was with Eli in death. He closed his eyes and stated that he died triumphant in the Christian faith. His second wife was Margaret Kennard, who died in August, 1886. Thomas Harris, born February 27, 1825, at Mt. Pleasant, Jefferson County, Ohio, married to Mary Anne Smith February 24, 1848. His second wife was Lizzie Leisure. He died at Chesterhill, Morgan County, Ohio, at the age of 77 years, 10 Months and 11 days. Received a common school education, attending school at Chesterhill, Ohio, with his nephew, John W. Harris. He came to Chesterhill when a young man, was a first-class blacksmith, learning the trade with his brother-in-law, George King. While learning his trade he attended school in winter. Was married at Chesterhill. Removed to Joy, Morgan County, Ohio, and conducted a shop for several years, thence to Stewart, Athens County, Ohio, and conducted a shop for several years, thence to Mt. Pleasant, Ohio, where he continued his trade for several years and then returned to Chesterhill, worked at his trade and in older years raised truck and did draying. He was a man of sterling character, loved by all and a devout Christian.
