Context

Dear Richard: I am using the reverse side of this letter to let you know the great things that are happening in our midst. I just came in from a visit with Janet Ewing. She has such a beautiful home and makes it more beautiful with her presence. I must get up to this service if possible for I helped to start this church. We lived for a little while near this church and Papa was really the founder. I wish we might have stuck by it but Papa's life was too short. Dan & family came for me last evening. I must get over and see Carrie. She is still suffering from that burn, and is still in bed. They seem to have moved this part of Columbus way down. Fifth Ave. is now about 75 miles south of here where Dan Harris lives. Oberlin seems to be a town itself. Carrie received a bad burn on her chest and still has a nurse with her. I had a good visit with Jeanette and her sister. She will go back with her teaching in a week or ten days. I am improving rapidly now, and hope to see Carrie soon. Dan says he will take me to see Carrie. If you are in Oberlin, look me up. I wrote you a letter but some way it did not reach the mail box. Come up if you are not teaching. Mother Bertha L. Harris [Reverse Side] Easter Columbus, Ohio. March 30, 1953 Dear Friend and Member: The great moment in the history of our HIlltonia Evangelical United Brethren Church will come to pass on this Easter Sunday, April 5th. From the break of dawn until the closing hour in the evening, this will be the most thrilling, greatest day that our Hilltonia Church has ever experienced. The fulfillment of a dream is being realized. For years, members and friends of this church have toiled hard, prayed constantly, given of their time and sacrificed of their money, that a lovely sanctuary and adequate building might be erected in our community for worship and for the training of all who come within its doors. Surely you would not want to miss this eventful day in our church. Beginning at 6:30 A.M., there will be a sunrise service in the new sanctuary. We are expecting a wonderful attendance in this very first service. Following this service, at 7:30 A.M., there will be a breakfast served to all who care to remain. If you plan to stay, please contact Charles VanArsdale, at UN-4420 to make your reservation. Dinner will not be served at the noon hour. Our Sunday School (please note change) will commence promptly at 9:30 A.M. The morning service will convene at 10:30 A.M. The Chancel Choir will make its first presentation in music, and Bishop Fred L. Dennis will bring the Easter message. The dedication service is scheduled for 2:30 P.M., and we trust that not a single member or friend of our church will miss being present as our new church is dedicated to the living Lord, Jesus Christ. The even service in music will be presented by Professor Daniel Harris of Oberlin College. Our goals for the day are 400 in Sunday School, a packed sanctuary for church and an overflowing crowd for the dedication service in the afternoon. We feel that this is one occasion in which every member and friend will want to make a real sacrifice to be with us on Easter and Dedication Day. Most Sincerely, {Delbert R. Krumm} Delbert R. Krumm, Pastor DRK/bmm
