Sept. 2, '98
My Darling Joe; -- I will send a note by Sam to let you know I am well and trying to wait patiently. Last evening while setting on the porch thinking of you Sam came across the road and disturbed my meditations.
Lest you should not get my last letter I will repeat a little. Father is church treasurer and has forty dollars here in the bank which we could have for a year or eighteen months or longer I think. He would have to charge us a little interest but we would expect to pay that. I thought this might be some help in our arrangements if you have not been able to secure the amount. But if this will not suffice and you think we had better not enter school let us just be cheerful for I believe there is some place for us. I feel like I have been almost cruel to just come away and leave you all the worry and responsibility but I thought it was best and am trying to do my part the best that I can.
I hope however to see you and Grace tomorrow evening. Dear Joe remember I am praying for you that you may just be led and guided by the Holy Spirit and if it is God's will that you may be successful in your arrangements for the Seminary.
May the dear Master be with you and bless you.
Remember you are dearer to me every day that I live.
Trustingly,
Your own true
Bertha
