[Ada, OH, to Miss Bertha Lambert, Iberia, Ohio, “Morrow Co.”]
Ada, O. Aug 17, 1895.
Miss Lambert,
Iberia, Ohio.
My Loving Bertha: Your letter came to hand yesterday and some how I have felt better ever since. I was perfectly delighted to know of your decision and shall endeavor to make you feel at home while here. Some people are going to be surprised. O yes I have a “trade last” for you now from Heller's folks. They never suspicioned that I had a claim on you so I assented to every statement they made.
They will be pleased to see you. I have seen Miss Chandler a number of times and for some time was mistaken as to who she was. I shall try to meet her soon. Mr. Bordner is here so perhaps she may have a fellow anyway. I think 11:40 is the latest train leaving Crestline until 6 in the morning, but they are supposed to make connections at Crestline. Doubtless you will be able to come in the afternoon so you can attend society, but I can meet you at the train at one time as well as another, just use your own pleasure. I enclose a bill so you can see what is going on. I will send money for your expenses or pay you here just as you like. I will see that you get a good place to stay for I shall expect you to take meals at our table and will try to have a room for you here also unless you prefer different arrangements. Yes you are lots of bother? but it is the sweetest botheration I ever endured.
I hope you may continue to bother right on through life. As to insignificance, the wonder to me is that you have condescended to listen to my plea as a life choice. I shall stay with my patient tonight, would that it were your smiling countenance instead. A letter from Leonard states that Ira is at Hermon and preached there last Sunday. I study Greek with Miss Dodd, C. B. Magills lady. I fear your coming will destroy that arrangement.
We have Y.M. & Y. W. Reception next Wed. evening. I will give you train time in the morning.
I trust this may find you pleasant as usual and may God watch over my loved one and keep her safe.
Devotedly,
J. H. Harris,
Saturday morning, feel a little sleepy. You can leave Crestline (6:20 A.M.) and (1:45, 11:40 P.M.). You can leave here in the morning and get to Iberia on the train which carried me to your presence. With love,
{J. H. Harris}.
