Context

5840 S. W. 48th St. Miami, Fla. 33155 August 10, 1982 Dear Dick: Many thanks for your interesting letter, with the information about the Fifth Avenue Church. I am so happy that it has survived, and is entering a new life. I would like to visit there some day. Have I written to you about Nana's birthday? I flew over in the morning and came back in the evening. Rented a small car and took Eva on a lot of errands. There was a party at two in the afternoon, with about fifty or sixty people in attendance, including many of the residents of the home. Nana was very alert and communicative. There were three television crews there, and she was not at all inhibited before the microphone and the bright lights. I sat down at the piano and played some old songs. Nana reared back and in a deep bass voice sang "There's no place like home, oh, there's no place like home." Eva had arranged for a beautiful big cake, and a good time was had by all. I'm very glad I was able to be there. Have I written you this before? Sorry. I suppose you know that the Miami Orchestra had conked out. I enclose an article from the local paper. The men were not willing to submit to an outside authority on hiring and firing in order to improve the quality of the organization. I'm afraid some of the people involved were from the University. I have had some problems with my car. The gas tank rusted out, and several switches went gah-gah. I hope to have it back tomorrow. I don't think I have a copy of the Fifth Avenue brochure you mention, but for the time being don't bother to make a photocopy. I hope your family members are all back safe and sound after their summer adventures. I appreciate your letters. Dan
