Context

[Bartlett, OH, to Mr. J. H. Harris, Ada, Ohio, Box 479] Bartlett O., Apr. 27, '95. Mr. J. H. Harris Ada O. My Dear Joe: — It is with pleasure that I enter upon this duty. I taught school today so I am somewhat tired but am surely not too tired to spend a short time with you. What a rest it would be to gaze on that manly form and look into those large eyes, piercing yet tender in their expression. I believe one look could express more than numbered pages of written thoughts. I rec'd your letter Wed. evening, also a long one from home at the same time. They were such an inspiration to me, I have felt better ever since. The folks at home seem very anxious for me to get home which makes me even more anxious. I will get home only a few days before High School commencement. I have three weeks and two days of school yet and expect to teach two more Sat.s. I am enjoying my school real well now. Better in some ways than when there are large pupils. I believe I forgot to mention about the song book. I like it very much and think it is much better for beginners than his other book. Leonard went to Athens for a few days but is back again. He has been exercising his strength in the corn-field for a few days. Today is quarterly meeting at Fairview but not many are going as it is so far and everybody is so busy. Would you believe me? they say I talked in my dreams last night about the Harrises. I hope I will not make a practice of it. I do not wonder it seems lonely since L. D. came away. I wish I might disturb your meditations some evening. Praying that God will bless you in all your undertakings and guide us in the way of usefulness and truth. I remain, Your Loving Bertha.
