Dear Dan and Aletha,
Maybe you can help.
I enclose a copy of Pauline's letter, which you may keep. She is looking for a set of letters from various persons back in the '30's, apparently assembled by a cousin Oscar Lambert, loaned to Uncle Ott, and later transferred to mother.
I have only hazy memories of hearing her review these and talk about them, 'way back in Seminary and Hilltonia days. They were discussed by her and Aunt Carrie as we rode a PRR train from Southern Illinois to Columbus, sometime in postwar years.
Can you help Pauline? Where did the letters go? James? Could I be holding them somewhere in my stuff?

I was sorry to hear of John's difficulties at home, but so glad to hear of Zach getting along so well. I would be pleased to hear more about the boys, and other family news.
Hi to Nana.

In September we had Karl Haas for guest-directing the OSU Symphony in a Mershon concert. His daily program also originated here, plus a call-in program that turned out to be a flood of live phone testimonial appreciation from all over Ohio.
I am currently working with 42 students, with more to enroll after football season. We had a rocky summer low, with the manager-owner snowed under a lot of unpaid bills, and some troublesome accounts receivable that required small claims court action.

Also enclosed: a new Ohio map, courtesy of James Rhodes, showing the rhodes of Ohio . . .
And a Columbus Dispatch article about Herrick. Shouldn't they mention Wellington?
I have met a man in the State Library who is an amateur genealogist, with special interest in Belmont County, Ohio, Quaker records, Maine, and New Bern, N.C. He feels sure he can throw some light on the existing records and maybe extend them a bit. I'll try to send you a report.
I Hope that you will find time to put together some memoirs of your career. It is a fascinating one, and only you can put it down directly.
I have been busy preparing materials for Ohio Teachers Retirement System, Social Security, etc. I'll come through with a modest retirement, and gratefully with some SS. The combination, with state retirement medical and SS health program, will be a godsend. With a small annuity from Continental Insurance.
Thanks for kicking me in the Butz about Self-Employment IRS some years back; it will be most helpful, and is still building a bit as we go along.
Can you tell me who is in charge of flute instruction at University of Miami? A local girl, Brenda Zubrod, is in Miami and wants to locate some advanced instruction.
As I write we have Ohio's most beautiful fall foliage. Wish I could send it to you.
Write when you have time. I'm eager to hear all about what goes.
Love,
Dick
