You need to understand that I just am not "into" computers. First off, though, I need to apologize for two dates I gave you that were incorrect. I'm sorry if I caused you extra work. Errors are most unlike me and I will aim to be more accurate in the future. Also, when I went to print out what I sent to you, it was gone! I guess I was supposed to print before sending the e-mail???? Anyway - Jack Rankin. If I typed 1974 it definitely was a typo since Mama's diaries ended in 1973. The notes I had mad that I typed from had 1972, which is what you thought. I was long gone from Ohio when Margaret married, so have no recollection of Jack. I re-read Mama's reference to his death. He had to have died in Ohio - and Columbus - as she says Warren and Katie picked her up on the eve of the 22nd and they went to Rutheford's. I assume that was the funeral home. ON the morning of the 23rd they picked her up at 10, the funeral was at 11, they had lunch and she was back home by 1 pm. I'm pretty sure Margaret and Jack lived in the north end of Columbus. When we were growing up the Nothstines lived in Linden (an area in the north end) and when Margaret died she lived in the north end. - Second correction: Aunt Minnie's date of death wad 6/28 and the funeral was 7/2. Mama wrote "Richard Harris and I were the only Harris relatives who attended." - Re Alfred Nothstine - My guess is that his middle name was Ralph. Ione's husband's name was Ralph and, after all, Alfred was the firstborn. Re Margaret Rankin - I'm almost positive she died in Columbus. An old address book, which appears to be from the 1980s, had her at 4902 Fairway Ct., which is in the north end. Re Aunt Ella - Mama's notes say "passed on" on 10/2 and "funeral" 10/5. The second entry you sent sounds more accurate. Here's a question for you - why do women their age have SSNs when they never worked outside the home? Did they acquire them when their husbands died or something???? Thanks for the info re Wilbur, Mabel and Madge. I know where they lived in the county north of Westerville. I have a cape that Mama had Madge knit for me as a gift one Christmas. I still wear it on special occasions. Re Ethel and Frances. I'm glad to know I wasn't completely out in left field in remembering that they were twins. Thanks. Had I told you that I took piano lessons from Frances when I was really too young to appreciate it? Re Nelle Harris' death in CO. Could it be that her daughter, Barbara, lived there and Nelle moved there to be near here? Or maybe eve son Harold. I remember him as a redhead and he played football in highschool [sic]. I'm sorry I keep forgetting to have a copy made of Cassie's letter to me after my mother's death. Maybe I'll get to it tomorrow. Hope your trip to Calif. was a pleasant one. I don't remember that any of the Harrises lived on east Park St. Too bad, too. It would not have been that far from our house on University St. Re your first e-mail. I can't remember if I told you how much I enjoyed reading your grand-father's letter. What a gem you have there. He really knew where his family members were. I don't know for sure, but I think my grandmother went by Marietta. My cousin Ann Cochran was named for her and was Marietta Ann. I plan to contact one of my Columbus nieces and ask her to check the phonebook and see if she can locate Ann. I'll give as much info as I have and if it helps I'll surely share with you. Well, again, this is way too long but once we get some of these questions answered our e-mails will be shorter. I haven't gotten into any letters yet. You have to remember I've been in this house just short of 26 years and things like old letters are really buried somewhere! Have fun with this. Jean
