[Westerville, OH, to Mr. J. H. Harris, Plantsville, Ohio, Morgan Co.]
Westerville, O., June 21, '96.
Mr. J. H. Harris,
Plantsville, O.,
My Darling Joe: — I have teased Carrie & Fred as long as I desire and I now retire to my room where I can talk to my sweetheart also. I have allowed my mind to wander back to old Mt. Hermon today. I presume you were there at church today. A thousand memories come flooding across my mind when I think of that old church. It has been a dear parent to me. Can I ever repay it? Although I could not expect to live there I hope to send back some cheering influence.
This morning I attended the regular services, and this evening attended Children's Day services at the Evangelical and that reminded me again of Mt. Hermon.
It seems quite lonely since the boys left, and I am thankful to have plenty to do. The past week has been a busy one. I think I could find plenty to do if I were at home all the time.
A strange rumor is going through Westerville; we hear that Mr. Minshall '96 & Miss Ervin '98 are to be married and sail to Africa this Fall. He has never gone with her except a few times at commencement, but I think they are both going to Africa and why not go together.
I fear that I am more bother than all the rest of your agents, but perhaps it is best that you should find it out. I want to go to work at canvassing Westerville just as soon as possible and my work at the other places will just depend on how I succeed. If I conclude that I am not cut out for an agent I will not meddle with it very long, but I will at least give it a trial. If I succeed reasonably well I will want to canvass the towns I have mentioned.
I think you were mistaken about that “Bachelor Joe,” I would not know what to do with two.
I wonder what you are doing, talking some one to sleep perhaps.
Happy dreams to you and may the Lord bless us in our work.
Lovingly
Bertha Lambert.
P.S. At P.O. your letter just rec'd. I will possibly go to work tomorrow. I surely thank you for trouble until better paid. Bertha.
