Context

3332 M St. S.E. Washington, D.C. November 12, 1972 Deer Cousin Bette, Your letter with its interesting enclosures has been here too long without an answer. I am delighted to hear from you and of your work to organize the materials your father had acquired on the Lamberts. I wrote to him when I discovered he and my mother had exchanged letters pertaining to the Lamberts but I did not know just what material she had sent to him. Unfortunately, none of us had the foresight to help my mother pull together the information in some written form which she knew so well about the family. I do have many of her letters but they do not help much on early history and she had not collected many items as your father has done. I have hopes of writing something on the life of my parents but have not gotten beyond the stage of collecting some letters and a few other items. This is to be one of my first projects when I retire but that date is not set yet either. Thus I am unable to send you the information you want on the Daniel Lambert line at this time. But so many children were named after him including one of my brothers, that I do accept the challenge to try to bring together basic information on his descendants. Uncle Otterbein's record which you have lists his ten children. His daughter Mary Eva was my grandmother and I do have information on that one branch down to the current generation. I think I can get data about Ida and Hannah through cousins I know. Two others died young. I should also be able to get information about Carolyn. That leaves four others about whom I am more doubtful but hope that some of these other cousins will have records or useful clews. Thanks so much for a copy of your record back to John Lambert and then of the Reece Lambert line. One of the interesting points is the marriage of the cousins between our two lines when Ellis Hopkins and Paul Lambert Selby (son of Eva) were united. For several years they lived here in the Washington area and we saw them often. To revise your listing on him, he was born in 1894 and died in 1967. One fine letter I have from him was written in March 1967 after my mother's death and tells much about the early life of my parents in Ohio, including their marriage performed by Daniel Lambert on 12-28-1906. The Reunion picture must be the same one my mother commented on. She identified several people but I cannot. The connection back to General Lambert in England is not something I can help on now but will check with others to see if there is any known verification. In summary I am of almost no help to you at the moment but hope to provide some contributions to the Lambert record somewhat later. I do want to stay in touch and would certainly try to attend a Lambert reunion. Please put me in touch with anyone who may undertake the editing of a Lambert book. Sincerely, {Malcolm} Malcolm L. Smith
