Westerville O., Dec. 1, 1895.
Mr. J. H. Harris,
Ada O.
My Dear Joe: — I would feel that it were almost a sin if I should close this day without giving a part of it to you.
This has been a very busy day, I have attended five services and helped to entertain a lady student whom I visited near Galion. So altogether I have not had much time for study.
Tonight I listened to an interesting lecture on “Africa” by Dr. D. H. Flickinger, who has been to Africa eleven times in forty years.
We have had two days of vacation and I feel like I have been out of school almost a month. Thanksgiving day the last football game of the season was played at Dayton and a large crowd of the students attended. They can get up more enthusiasm over football than missions it seems.
Last Wed night we Preps had a fine social in the society halls. I really believe it excelled the senior banquets, at least I enjoyed it more. But I am sorry to say that it took the janitor, a part of the faculty, the marshal and a large guard besides to subdue the other classes, I do not know what was the trouble unless they envied we Preps. As it was some of our number suffered from showers of cold water, eggs and various kinds of acids, however I was as fortunate as in the wreck. You had best not tell the students who talk of coming to O.U. but they need not be frightened.
I do not want you to think I am getting up a music school similar to Smith's, when I tell you I have one voice pupil for next term, for I hardly think I will attempt that as yet (I did not ask for the pupil).
I am glad to know you think some of going home, and the plan of your visit suits me, yes the whole family real well. Father was at home this week and will perhaps come again during holidays. I presume we are not the only ones who are counting the days.
Our school does not close until the 24, but there is nothing the last week except examinations and if I should escape those I will be out about the same time you will. It can not interfere with my studies at the time of which you speak however.
May angels guard us while we sleep.
Lovingly
Bertha Lambert.
