Context

[Ada, OH, to Miss Bertha Lambert, Westerville, Ohio.] Ada, O. Sep. 25, 1895. Miss Lambert, Westerville, O. My Dear Sweet-heart: Please allow me to whisper a few words in your ear this evening. Your message brought so much sunshine that it made me feel lots better. You and my nose are my best friends, but I prefer having you entertain me. We had quite heavy frost Mon. night and a fine rain today, so we have our stove up and are really keeping house, but I thought this morning as I commenced work how much brighter thins would seem if you could even be sitting in the room, but I guess we never study together any do we? however we can write ctt's can we not? or rather you can write while I keep the flies and hungry gnats away. Marvin brought you letter etc. over. He usually stays with me quite a little while. I don't look sour at him but simply go to work. That picture is simply immensely fine. The upper left hand corner, {ie} as you look at it, is perfectly lovely and I couldn't keep my mind and eyes from feasting upon it. You look just like you ought to speak to me. I thank you ever much for it. I showed it to Mother Heller, and she thought I would get a great deal of comfort from it. I called on Miss Chandler (just a few moments) Sunday evening. I saw her again this evening and showed the picture. She was delighted with it and asked me if I thought there were any more of them. She goes home Saturday, so I suppose I will have to weep again. I bade Miss Dodd good bye Mon. thus one by one they leave. School work is about as usual. It will soon be exam. time. Mr. Kraft went home Mon. Next Sunday is our separate meetings and I will have another Y.M.C.A. lesson to get also my inaugural for Friday. I did not tell you that Mr. Nelson enters Junior yr. in Chicago U. and that Mr. Stockstill enters Junior of Northwestern U. I was sorry to hear of Ira's sickness and trust to hear of his being at work in the near future. I have not much money to throw away, but I would rather rob myself in most any other way than miss a frequent visit with my Bertha. I feel that that is worth more than money. I think it would be treating you unjust, saying nothing about how bad I should feel to stay away from the dearest friend (yea more than a friend) from Aug. until holidays. I hope we may not have to be separated that long. I had my hair and whiskers cut off so I feel rather muly, besides how I look. Perhaps I had better stay away from W— until nature clothes me once more, what think you? Can you not find a “point” to attend receptions etc. or do they want to stop at that? Is Mr. McKean in school now? When does Otterbein go to his school? I take the morning watch from 7 to 7:30 Sun. time for special prayer in which a certain part is in your behalf. So at that time will you think that one is praying for you and placing our plans before God for His approval or correction? I close for this time by sending kind regards to all who may inquire and especially to Ira. May God keep us safe for the coming wks. Your devoted Lover, J. H. Harris. P.S. Thursday morning If they study Bible prophecy at Otterbein could you tell me what text or outline they use? [Joe] A happy morning to you!
