Context

[Westerville, OH, to Mr. J. H. Harris, Ada, Ohio, Box 479] Westerville O. May 26, '95. Mr. J. H. Harris Ada O. Dear Joe: — This pleasant afternoon finds me very pleasantly situated and surely enjoying life in a high degree. I surely feel a weight of care and responsibility lifted from my mind which I never can realize elsewhere than at home. I was at church this morning, but I must confess it did not seem like Hermon. I believe it is going to take me some time to become acclimated. John & Hannah drove down Wed. and went back Sat. We had a nice visit but John was sick so he was not able to go to Carrie's commencement. I had decided to go to Iberia immediately after College commencement. I thought I had best stay that long and get some of the moss worn off. I have been asked to help in the music for our Open Session for commencement week and I thought that would do me good also. Hannah thinks there will be a good opening for me but of course I can not tell much about it. I received a letter from my old room-mate Zaidie Chandler, she is back at Ada where we used to room. I presume you will meet her. It is such a pleasure to be at home, I can hardly realize that it is a fact. I wish you could have heard Carrie's address, “The Power of an Idea.” I thought it was excellent and many others expressed the same opinion. Next Wed. night an oratorical contest will be held here in which Ira has a part. Your coming will not bother me any in regard to Ex. that I can see at least I will risk that part. I presume you will come on the same train you came on before. If you do not buy a round trip ticket from Columbus we can perhaps go down on the street car. I will not write a long letter for my mind is too full of our long expected visit to think of any thing else. Good night and happy dreams to you! Thoughtfully, Bertha Lambert.
