Context

Sept. 2, 1992 Dear Cousin Paul: I wanted to tell you of a trip my husband Dave and I, and our three kids who live in Kansas made to Columbus and Westerville, Ohio. As you know my mother, Anna Wilson Mayne, died on Dec. 15, 1991, and we had her cremains sent back to be buried beside my father in the Otterbein Cemetery in Westerville. Our family flew out there the last of July for a Dedication and Memorial Service at the gravesite. Also to show my children as much as I could of Westerville and Sunbury (just north of Westerville). They are all interested in genealogy and carry a loose leaf book of the family with them in which to write down any new history. I showed them the interesting pictures you sent of the Lamberts in New Jersey, also some letters received from Glenn Main (who is doing a history of the Mayne side of the family-he may have contacted you at some time.) Anyway, I don't remember if you have been to Otterbein Cemetery and Westerville, I can't recall from my long conversation with you two years ago, but my feeling you had not at that time. If you haven't, you should, as it is a gold mine for you. The Lamberts, Maynes, Harris's, and Charles are all buried there (except my Grandfather John Calvin Mayne who is buried in Germantown, Ohio). At a separate grave at the entrance to the cemetery is the grave of Horace Mayne. (Dwight Mayne and Martha, and Helen are buried with Hannah Mayne). My parents are buried next to her parents, the Wilsons. Anyway, Horace's gravesite is quite interesting. He is buried there, his divorced wife Cora (I believe is her name [Clara]) is buried next to him (perhaps with the stillborn child). Also Roger, his only son, is buried there, a gravesite is waiting for Debbie [Donna C.] , Roger's wife (who I think may live in the Columbus area), and Roger's son, who apparently died at about 17. I don't have my facts real clear but my son videotaped everything and we have it on the tape. We also visited the Presbyterian Church, where the marble steps were given by Horace and a plaque on each side dedicating them to Hannah and John Calvin. There is also a lovely little park, the Hannah Lambert Mayne Park, not too far from Otterbein Cemetery given by Horace to the city-it is in excellent condition and used by the neighborhood children. There is the Mayne Dorm given by Horace and perhaps other members of the family to Otterbein College-it is four stories and in good condition. We drove by the home at 83 E. Park where Hannah raised her children, and her parents built the house. Their home is next door. The railroad tracks have been taken out but you can see where they were. The houses are in fairly good shape. We found the graves of my great-grandparents on my Mother's side in Sunbury, but I'm sure you're not trying to get into that area. I am quite interested in the lives of Elizabeth and John Lambert you found in New Jersey. How did you happen to find them there or know the graves were there? Do you know anything about their lives, their occupations, or how long they had been in America? What area of the family are you working on now? I guess I told you we had a new granddaughter, Steve's child, Anna Christine Vequist born on April 14, 1992 in Wichita. We are expecting another grandchild, to be born to John and Birgitta in Sweden in the latter part of October. Our grandson, David, son of our late son, David III, will be married on Dec. 30 of this year-so life does go on. I think you told me you are a commercial pilot, but you didn't say for which airline. When we were flying United this summer, with layovers in Chicago both ways we asked the United personnel if they knew Paul Harris-no takers so far. We flew Delta to Vancouver BC in June for a week's cruise to Alaska. Always love to hear from you. If you have any further questions please let me know. Hope the above information is helpful to you. Sincerely, Betty Vequist 1720 J. F. Kennedy Drive Pittsburg, Kansas 66762
