[Ada, OH, to Miss Bertha Lambert, Westerville, Ohio, “Franklin Co.”]
Ada, O. May 22, 1896.
Miss Lambert,
Westerville, Ohio.
Loving Bertha: Your sweet message at hand finds me well and working busily to get through, but it looks now as though I would be compelled to stay until the first of the wk.
I have been very busy and quite successful too. I am sorry I can not say definitely as to coming Sat. I have some orders out that may not come in until the afternoon train Sat.
My roommate took sick this wk and so I have had a pretty hard wk. He is going home this morning so I have to take considerable time getting him ready. Mr. Cochran of Knox Co. is the man. If I can possibly arrange to reach you Sat. I will do so even if I have to come on the late train, but please do not wait for me Sat. night. I know it is so painful for my Sweetheart to have to be wondering and waiting but perhaps I may get mail this morning that will make things clear and I will write tomorrow morning. I got a letter yesterday in which they said they wanted me to do some work at Otterbein after getting through at Athens. So perhaps I may see you then for a longer visit.
I don't know how the work will result but it is encouraging now and I continually ask God to direct me every day.
Hoping I may not disappoint my Love I hastily bring this to a close.
Your Lover,
J. H. Harris.
