Dear Dick:-
Was glad to hear from you, and I would like very much to work out my plans as you have mentioned in your letter, but since talking with Mr. Shepherd, I find that my working week does not end until Sunday the 7th, so that means I will leave Baltimore on Monday the eighth and arrive in Dayton on the following day. I'm sorry I can't come any earlier, but you see it means more money to me if I work through Sunday. I will probably take the bus, or there may be a possibility that one of the fellows who lives here in the Y will drive to his home in Columbus and bring me along.
Last Saturday and Sunday I had a most delightful week end in Washington with Roscoe Brane and his family. They have a very beautiful modern Spanish home out in the suburb known as Chevy Chase. They surely do run some fast trains between here and Washington, practically every hour and more, and I rather enjoy riding them. I have to go to Washington again Tuesday and have some interviews about church positions there in the morning, then in the afternoon, Phil and myself will take the steamboat on the Potomac to Mt. Vernon and back. We will spend about 3 hours looking over Washington's home.
It is getting quite warm here in the city, so I will be glad to hit for the hills of Ohio.
Well, I must close now and eat lunch. My classes at Peabody are over now. I pulled a 95 in the conducting examination which was both oral and written. In the oral part, they gave each of us 5 minutes to look over the score of a Haydn movement that we had never seen before, then at different times we had to go in the Director's office before the director and Mr. Bornschein and conduct an orchestra composed of some of the faculty members, using that particular composition and one other. Some students that tried out for certificates and diplomas failed, so strict are they here about standards.
Well, I hope I can come back up for the 13 and 14 for commencement anyway. So long till I see you,
Your brother,
Jimmie
