Context

Started back “home” at 1:40 P.M. After arrival in Portsm. we took picture of place where Theodore was born. Then we were escorted through the Selby Shoe Factory about closing time (we had to hurry). There was a heavy shower in the afternoon. We ate supper with George Morgan a member of Nauvoo Church. Rev. Sweazy is doing wonderful work at that church (the S.S. attendance last Sunday was 539!). The view from Nauvoo is marvelous. In the morning Papa and we climbed “Sugar Loaf,” a mountain in Nauvoo. After that Sweazy took us up town, had a tire fixed and then took us to Ironton. It's some place. We went out on the Ironton bridge and could see for miles. Had a picnic supper and stayed over night after we had gone with Rev. Plummer for a meeting. In the morning we took a car for Coal Grove where we took the ferry for Ashland where we saw the “Charles R. Wilson,” a river steam-boat; it was keen. We then went by traction from Ashland, through Kenova, (the tri-city) to Huntington. We then took another car to Guyandotte then by ferry to Proctorville, where we were met and taken to the home of Mr. Ellis on Crown City charge. That's where we are now. The apples here are delicious. We were in three states this morning. In the evening we went to Quarterly with Mr. Ellis after an interesting afternoon. Mrs. Ellis fixed some wonderful pickles and I “tanked up” on them. After the service Rev. Ray Beegle took us to Walnut Ridge, where we spent the night. Friday morning I woke up sick as a dog, and then some. Wow but I was all in! I didn't eat any breakfast. We (Papa, Beegle, and I) went in Beegle's flivver to Beegle's home near Syracuse. I didn't eat any dinner and lay down most of the time 'til 3:30 P.M. We then were taken to Pomeroy where we got a $2.50 room. I think it's the Presidential Suite! It's the corner room, 3rd floor at the Remington Hotel. Gosh I don't know how to act (1st time I've ever had a room in a hotel).
