[Westerville, OH, to Mr. J. H. Harris, Ada, Ohio]
Westerville O., Dec. 15, '95.
Mr. J. H. Harris,
Ada O.
My Darling Joe: — Your letter was rec'd Sat. morning. Of course I was somewhat disappointed when I did not receive your letter Thur. evening, but I knew you were busy and thought that was the reason.
Mr. Brodnax was here from Thur. until Sat. I attended one service conducted by him and Miss Ervin (our Y.W. Pres.) and I spent an hour with him. You need not feel jealous for our talk was all concerning missions and what part we might have in the work. I feel that he made my life better, and I wish there were many more such devoted Christians than there are. It seems that we have been enjoying almost too many good things. The past few days have been such precious ones to me. But I presume it is not best for us always to live in such ecstasy. As the time draws near for your visit I become more and more impatient. As to you coming on Thur. evening — the st. cars have been running all night part of the time lately, to prevent the tracks from freezing. I think there is no doubt but that you could come up on the st. cars if you get to Columbus by 9 o'clock or the time you mentioned, and if you should miss that you could come up on the midnight train. I do not want to interfere with any of your arrangements, but I hope to enjoy more than just a few moments visit with you. Now do not think me selfish?
School closes here next Thur. (except examinations) and most of the students will have departed before you arrive. One of the girls asked me if that big brother of mine was coming home holidays (referring to you).
I did not mean to frighten you about your visit when I spoke of our company. Mother said she supposed we would not care about sleeping much, and thought she could arrange for the rest. But come whenever you can and I will risk that difficulty.
I think you are becoming quite a poet if you composed that in your last letter. If you get this in time to answer you can do so, please, but if not come whenever you get through and it will be all right. Trusting that I may see you soon, and that God may help us to see now what he would have us do for him. I remain.
Your true one,
Bertha Lambert.
