Darling Joe: — Your letter was rec'd Thur. evening as I went to society. I need not tell you it was welcome, although I hardly expected one so soon. I hope you will not be uneasy or worried when I tell you that one of my eyes has been giving me some trouble and I am not at school this morning.
I had not noticed that it was so bad until yesterday and I immediately went to the Dr. and procured medicine which is helping it. I think it will be all right in a few days but I thought best not to study. Yes I was somewhat sleepy Thur. but I managed to keep awake all day. I do wonder if you will ever come back again after being run off before breakfast. Father came home Thur. evening and we have been having a fine time together. Yesterday the Volunteer Band had a public meeting. The prayer room was crowded and every one listened with great earnestness to talks by Miss Murrel, Mr. Edwards and Mr. Calker. I must say that Mr. Edwards' & Mr. Calker's were equal to sermons. I surely think those boys are wonderful. I hope the meeting may have some lasting results.
It was somewhat of a cross for me to lead the meeting, as scarcely any one knew that I was a volunteer but I was much strengthened by it and feel much better equipped for the battles of life.
You have a lovely morning to start out in your work and I trust you will be successful.
Leaving all in God's hands and believing that “He doeth all things well,” I remain,
Your true one
Bertha Lambert.
