Mr. J. H. Harris,
Athens O.
Darling Joe: — I know you are wondering about me, and I have been thinking much about you this sweet sad day. Well to begin with I am glad to tell you my eyes are much better, but the effects of the medicine still make it difficult and somewhat dangerous to use them very much at close work so I will only write a little. The Dr. says they will be well in a few days but not strong enough for close work for some time.
I can not tell you how much I was pleased with that lovely book. It is beautiful to behold and I know not less beautiful in thought. I finally read your letter by making two or three attempts at it. It was so good that I want to read it two or three more times but know I must not now. I think that was quite a eulogy on myself. I came home from Col. Tues. I was back again Fri. and will go again tomorrow.
Father & Mother have gone to Iberia and we are keeping house. I hope to see you here in school in a few days. Fred was here for dinner today. I wished so much that you were here too. Fred is going home soon and he and Carrie are pretty badly broken up about it.
Mon. Morning— I am just ready to start to Columbus. My eyes are still better.
Hoping to see you soon, I remain,
Your own true one
Bertha Lambert.
