Context

1949 Forest Ave. Morton, Pa. July 1, 1957 Dear Jim and Caroline: Your letter of June 27th has been here for several days. I am so glad you will be having a nice vacation for the month of July. Our minister has now left on vacation. Last year the congregation sent him on a preaching mission to Japan. I go to the Swarthmore Methodist Church and the minister's name is Rev. Kulp. Swarthmore is a beautiful school (beautiful campus that is). It still holds somewhat to the Quaker ways and there is a Friends Meeting House on the campus. It is coeducational. A man from Westerville sent his daughter there....Bunce I believe was the name. They had been in Japan a long time. I have never met the girl. There are a few fraternities and Ted used to go over the the Kappa Sig House once in a while but he was not very well acquainted with anyone so did not feel too much at home. Speaking of Kappa Sigma.....Ted has had a couple of recommendations from General Clark who is also a Kappa Sig. Ted knows him. He substituted for "the General" he said teaching the S.S. class several times. I don't know what General that was. (Excuse getting out of line.) He is only a P.F.C. because he did not want to stay in the army for 4 years to become an officer. It will be 4 years anyhow without practicing his profession when he gets out of the army because when he was with Dick he did very little designing altho he worked making models for a while. No one wanted to hire a boy who was 1A in the draft. That is what they have to put up with no matter what their standing from college. July 3d Now you see I stopped all of a sudden the other day because we decided to go to Pottstown. Dick had to go on business and it was a beautiful day and I went along for the ride. Back to Ted: He has been transferred to the Symphony Orchestra and Soldiers Shows Company at Stuttgart. He is making scenery and loves it. One of his room mates is Gary Crosby, Bing's son. He got the transfer through General Clark. The other Bill Warfel, Ted's first cousin, is also in dramatics.....He has a Masters Degree from Yale Drama School and will teach production at Dartmouth next year. He is doing movies in New Haven this summer. You see both boys are the same age and have the same first name (William)...Ours is Wm T. and theirs is Wm B. Now as to the family history..... I will write on another page for that. [Page not included] I guess I told you Mary Sue is in school again this summer, Kent State. We work on toward a new goal as far as Dick's work is concerned. He just finished a complicated instrument for an engineering company on which he did about half of the engineering himself. Many of the drawings were made after the instrument was put together! It is a beautiful official looking thing! He also is doing some selling. Right now we do not know which will win in the end. Also do you know anything about Emma Harris? I wrote her some time ago and she has never answered. I wondered whether her arthritis is worse. Sincerely With best wishes to you all, {Pauline} {P.S. No more pictures right now. Do you have the painting on ivory of grandma Lambert at 16. I would like very much to own a copy of that. John M. said he thot he could phot- it.}
