Dear Cousin Molly: Joe and I have been looking up the Lambert family history and there are some things you might know which we younger ones do not. Here are some things I would like to know about.
About what year did grandfather move out to Morgan Co? Or who was the baby when they moved?
Where in Belmont Co. did they live?
How much land did they buy and what was the price per acre?
Was it all in forest?
Did they ever have any house other than the last one they lived in (in Morgan Co)?
What caused grandfather's death?
Did Peninah Stanton marry and were there any children?
What furniture did grandfather bring to Morgan Co.?
Was most of the land around them settled when they came?
Can you tell me anything about grandfather?
I believe he was not a member of the Friends church. Was he religious? Was he a good man? A good worker? A kind father and husband?
As I recall the old home - Grandfather's had a two story log house with one large room and one bedroom besides a lean-to kitchen on the first floor. I cannot remember whether there was one or two rooms up-stairs. Was there an attic above this? It seems like there was a porch back of the living room. Is this right? Back of the house was the spring.
In the living room was a large open fireplace with a clock on the mantel. Rag carpet was on the floor? The furniture consisted of a long settee, two or three ladder-back rocking chairs & other splint-bottom chairs. A small stand, a Bible, almanacs, a mirror. I cannot remember about the bed room & up-stairs. In the kitchen was a leaf table, a stove, corner cupboard & chairs. What else was in the kitchen? Where did grandmother keep her loom and spinning wheel?
I wonder sometimes why we do not write such things down when we have a chance to talk personally with our friends but we never seem to realize the necessity of it until they slip away from us. I would much rather sit down with you and talk such things over but I do not know when I will get to see you. I know this is asking a good bit of you but maybe Lettie will help write things down for you. I feel we must write down some of these things for the sake of our children.
It seems so long since I saw any of you. I cannot yet realize that Lin has gone. Does Lettie live with you in Lin's home or where are you living? How is Eva Worthington, Oliver Edgerton's family, Hannah Jane Rardin & others? I think I should have the Jesse Fawcett family with descendants if you can give it.
There are a number of people from about Bartlett living in Dayton. Two of the Heald boys and their mother and some of the Cummings family. Gertrude Bartlett teaches in the high school and rooms with us.
What relation was Maggie Cummings to father? Also Martha Scott? and Elijah Vernon? & Tamar Edgerton? Explain.
