Context

[J.H.Harris, 514 Woodbury Ave., Columbus, Ohio postmarked Columbus, Ohio, Nov 22 1940 2-PM, to Mr and Mrs John Voltz, 2105 Bolton Avenue, Baltimore, Maryland.] 514 Woodbury Ave. Columbus, Ohio Nov. 21, 1940 Dear John and Louise: Another Thanksgiving day is vanishing for Ohio. Richard and Oscar Smith went with Roger and Ruth to Detroit yesterday for a brief visit. Mrs Harris went with Betty Tucker this morning to the O.G. breakfast at Mufrage's home, while I went to the Lutheran church, cor. Broad and Terrace, for the union service at 7:30. I gave the message, so of course it was good. They had a very beautiful devotional service. Our people seemed to think I could take good care of the service as Mr. Bell was the only other Hilltonian there. Doubtless this was accounted for from the fact that last evening we had a luncheon and thanksgiving service at the church with at least 25 present. Clays, Bedfords, Robinsons, Applegates etc were present. All had some part in the service except a two year old boy. The only difficulty was that some ate so much last night they could not relish the dinner today. Mrs Mayne, Mrs Harris' sister, of Westerville spent the day with us. Dan and Aletha sent a basket loaded with a wonderful cake, cookies, home-made bread and Apples. We hope to spend Christmas with Dans at Oberlin. Glad for your letter. I suppose that seeing you Oct. 20 and my extra work led me to neglect prompt answer. We spoke of your wedding anniversary and of course you did not forget it. I note in the Telescope the following named churches in Baltimore; Baltimore Scott St. Fred W. Mund, pastor; Fulton Ave. G.B.Sprenkle; Salem F.T.Kohler: Otterbein Memborial, Paul R. Koontz; Otterbein (Old) Paul D. Emenheiser; Franklin St Memorial, B.F.Blubaugh; Siemers Memorial, Russell C. Oyer. Mr Oyer graduated from our Seminary while I was president. He married a very fine lady (Miss Jackson) who worked in the Seminary office. I hope you may get acquainted with many of our folk there. The Old Otterbein church has some wonderful history behind it. Otterbein's grave is in the yard. I hope your financial program comes along well so you can carry out some of your desired plans. Our attendance at the church is growing. Norman is still carrying on the C.E. Ohio has a great youth conference at Memorial Hall 22-24. we are to entertain some of the delegates while Richard is out. Let us hear from you often if only a card. Keep courageous hearts and you will win. Mrs joins me in affectionate remembrance. Sincerely, J.H.Harris
