My Darling Joe: — This quiet Sabbath again finds me a little lonely. I have been reading almost all the afternoon but a shower has chased me in the house and I will now talk with you. I rec'd your letter from Webster yesterday but not in time to answer. Down you go farther and farther away, but I presume you will come back some of these days.
Last week was a very busy week for me. On Mon. I helped Lucy and met my class. In the evening I went out near St. James and stayed all night with one of my pupils and the next morning went to Cardington. I stayed there until Wed. 10 A.M. and returned to St. James and had a fine buggy ride out home with the hackman. Thur. we went to a picnic and at night to a festival. Since then the time has been spent in a little of everything but very busily. I fear I have about twice as many engagements, for the next four days, as I can fill. We want to have an “Old Maid's Picnic” one day this week.
I expect to start home Fri. morning. I think it will be the best in the end.
I find that canvassing is pretty hard work for me and will not try much more while it is so warm.
And this is my last Sabbath in Iberia. In some ways it seems that I have been here only a short time and in others it seems like a long long time. I have enjoyed the summer real well but am anxious to get home and settled in school again. I believe I feel more at home there than any other place, although this seems almost like home.
John's leaves for Dayton on the train with me so we will leave one quiet place in town. Miss Ervin's friend came down from Tiffin the other evening on his wheel. It made me feel more lonely than ever. Ira and Otterbein were both coming home last week so Mother and Elsie are not so lonely. I presume East Park St. will be as noisy as ever in about a week. Miss Chandler talks of visiting me this fall.
May God keep us faithful and safe till we meet again.
Your own true one,
Bertha Lambert.
