Context

MALCOLM L. SMITH P.O. Box 6712 Washington, D. C. 20020 July 11, 1977 Dear Bette, I have been intending to write you for some time. My narrative about my parents, up to the time of their deaths, has kept me busy. Soon I hope to find a way to have it published in some form (how is still a question). In the Lambert newsletter of a year ago the notes about General John Lambert were of interest. I take it there is no real evidence anyone has found to link his immediate family to the Lamberts over here. Did anyone respond to your questions with any more light on our Lamberts in New Jersey and North Carolina? I am showing Abner, b. 15 Jan. 1749, as the son of John and Elizabeth Sayres Lambert with birth dates of 28 Mar. 1715 and 26 Nov. 1716, from family records which we have not been able to verify. But please tell me if you have learned anything to the contrary. [End of Page 1] Will you be going to the Lambert reunion? I have not heard about Stephen and Margaret but do not plan to go myself. Recently when we were back in Ohio, I found the man who now [...] the old Daniel Lambert (my great grandfather) farm which was close enough to the Selby home that my mother would would visit there often as a child. Their house was burned out forty years ago. I am still disappointed not to find even a short biography of him by any of his children or in the local histories. Have you decided yet on a plan to publish all that you and your father have collected on the several Lambert branches? Has Pauline found anything more of interest? I keep thinking her father's papers may still have some items hidden away that would be helpful. Best wishes. Sincerely, {Malcolm}
