Context

[Westerville, OH, to Mr. J. H. Harris, Ada, Ohio, Lock Box 28] Westerville O., Sept. 1, '95. Mr. J. H. Harris Ada O. My Darling Joe: Once more in my own parental home I have come to talk with you. I know you have been longing for a letter and I should have written before leaving Iberia but it could not have been of any length and so I preferred to wait until I got home. I put in the time pretty faithfully the last week, and I surely wish you might have been with us on Fri. night. Now I am not boasting but I know you are pleased to hear of my success which I may enjoy, and I talk to you as I would to no other. In short our concert was a success. Every one pronounced it excellent. Of course it was not all classicals the place did not demand that but it was of a nature that Iberia seemed to appreciate. The crowd was not as large as it should have been but it is almost impossible to have a large crowd at a pay entertainment in Iberia but everything went off nicely and almost every one invited me back next summer. So I accomplished my object. I have enjoyed the happiest summer of my life, cleared $25 and the experience can not be estimated in money value. John, Horace & I drove through yesterday and Lucy & Helen came on the train. We got here at 6:30. I enjoyed the trip real well but was a little tired last night. It seems very nice to get home again, but a change of location always makes me just a little dissatisfied and that feeling seems to prevail today. I can not help but recall one week ago today. I have felt all day that I was just lost without you. I long to get settled in work again whatever line it may be. You need not worry about what you said concerning my work for you said just what I wanted you to. We look for D. I., Elsie, Father & Sam's tomorrow so there will be quite an increase in our family. If you were only coming it would be just complete. W. O. will teach in Morgan Co. this year. The school east of town which I spoke of is taken. The primary room at Dublin (twelve miles from here) is not taken and it would be quite a nice position, but I think it would be very doubtful about getting that. However I think I shall go and see about it. We all went to the Pres. church (but W. O.) today as John's wanted to go there. John thinks he has made a pretty good Pres. of me but I fear he has not accomplished so much as he thinks. I rec'd the Herald last evening and read it so eagerly that the folks asked if I was hunting for my name. You need not bother about sending it now as D. I. takes it and I think we can both read one. It has been a great pleasure to me & I thank you a thousand times for the kindness I feel that you do a great deal more for me than you ought or than I deserve. I do not know how I can ever repay such kindness. I hope you have become rested e'er this, and please do not study too hard but take good care of my dear Joe in every. May the Lord care for us. Your loving one Bertha E. Lambert.
