Context

April 5, 1960. Mrs R. M. Warfel, 200 N. 7th Street, Mt. Vernon, Illinois. Dear Cousin: I received your interesting and informative letter of March 18th and appreciate it. Enclosed is a photostat copy of the Elizabeth Lambert story. It is very dim but the best we could get for the copy I received from Mr Endicott. I have the original deed made to Abner Lambert by James Madison dated 7-18-1817 for 160 acres, two miles south of Somerton, Belmont Co., Ohio. This is not doubt their home from 1818 until 1836. I am wondering if Captina referred to was not a Quaker M. M. on the creek by the same name and records of her reinstatement might be found in the minutes. I checked minutes of Perquimans, Pasquotank and Core Sound M. M. and found many Cartwrights but no Winnifred. Abner Lambert was received by request in Core Sound M. M. 12-11-1782. This was two years after they were married. Taking dates and places of births of children they lived in or near New Bern, Craven Co. N. C. from 1781 to after 1786 and then moved to Trent River (N. side) near Trenton, Jones Co and the last reference I could find was deed for land N. Trent River Abner Lambert to Bryan Whitfield 5-14-1798 wife did not sign deed. Family records say Joseph D. Lambert oldest son died 4-20-1803, Belmont Co., Ohio, age 20 yrs. I have letter from Benjamin Lambert dated 6-16-1833 at Concord (outside with not Colerain) to Abner Lambert, Somerton. He tells of the death of their father and sister Annie and mentions Daniel and mother going back to her own place (Abner's 3rd wife married 7-10-1811) O. You may have this information. I am wondering if you have any information as to the time Abner L. and family arrived in Belmont Co. I assume that some of the family was at or near Concord or Colerain from 1803 to 1833 and wonder if they were Quakers and if there would be any records of M. M. of Concord, Short Creek or others. Trent River Monthly Meeting was dissolved January 1800 and the membership went to Red Stone and then on into Ohio. Borden Stanton arrived in September and Joseph , Hannah & Elizabeth in October 1800. When I was in N. C. I did not know that Trent River was a Quaker M. M. and did not do any checking for information in the minutes. If the records of Trent River and Concord are available they would help me a great deal. I will appreciate any information you might have. I am wondering what Lamberts had the plantation and 900 slaves or were they the Stantons? I have the book "Our Ancestors the Stantons." There is a picture of the clock which was owned by Stanton in Cincinnati. Joseph, Hannah and Elizabeth Stanton are not represented by a written contribution. Joseph is listed as a younger brother of Borden.
