Context

[Box 219, Athens, OH, to Miss Bertha Lambert, Box 344, Westerville, Ohio, “Franklin Co.”] 8 P.M. Box 219 Athens, Ohio. June 29, 1897 Miss Lambert Westerville, Ohio. Darling Bertha Your letter came to hand this evening just as I was leaving town. I came out with C. A. in the buggy. I am now sitting in Chas' new room which makes a beautiful study room. We are having a nice rain. My pen will hold ink for about two words. I would wait until tomorrow night for writing, but thought it might be too late for your start to Geneva. You will pardon me if I don't write much under the present circumstances. I am feeling well and can stand the work nicely, I only wish I had plenty of it for the rest of the season. I don't know yet what the work will be. I must have sympathized with you with your toothache as I dreamed of seeing you so plainly. My mind went to you Sat. and Sun. more than usual although I went to Uncle Geo's Sat evening and stayed until Sun evening. I attended children's exercises here Sat. evening. They invited me to talk to them some time so I arranged to come out July 11. I hope you may go to Geneva. You might see what you can get a sleeper for in going and coming. I am sorry you had to suffer with toothache. I suppose Mr Byrer was the first on the list. So many things come to mind to speak of which of course tonight at least does not permit mentioning. Our love is true and pure. We miss each other very much. I know you are with me in thought and I never found it easier to live in pure thought than now although surrounded with such bad influences. You are my jewel. Pray for me every day and I will for you. Enjoy your trip all that is possible. Write a line as soon as you get through. Take the nicest care of your health and spend much time in prayer. All is well with me and I enjoy my work. Do not worry about me. The folks are ready to go to bed so I must leave Sweetheart for tonight. May God bless and keep you safe. Your Lover, J. H. Harris.
