Mr. J. H. Harris,
Ada O.
Dear Joe: — I will steal a few moments to talk with you this busy morning. I am still enjoying life and its many blessings. I think every week I will accomplish more outside work but it seems that I do not get much done but my regular work.
I am surely doing more visiting than usual for me. We visited two nice homes in the country last Thur. I hardly feel that I have the time for such pleasures but it seems that the people rather expect it. A celebration of about twenty five S.S. will be held at [Bromlee] lake about four miles from here next Thur. I presume I will attend. I sometimes feel a little like you did in going to the banquet but yet I feel that it is my duty to go.
No I do not censure you for not attending the banquet. I realize that in such a place one is more apt to feel rather lost unless with some one whom you especially enjoy being with. It made me feel that I was almost cruel to deprive you of such enjoyments by simply staying away from com. Yet I could not see that that would be the proper thing.
I had the pleasure of meeting an O.N.U. student this morning, H. L. Bigbee who is working in the interest of A. H. Elliot. (lecture work) He will be likely to come here and give a lecture. John wants to know if Elliot is a Pres. and a member of the C.E. I presume you are acquainted with him? I presume Ada is a quiet place today, and your meditations will not be disturbed so frequently by the college yell & etc.
I have been wondering if you would go home? or how you would put in the time during vacation. I wish I might disturb some of your lonely hours. Dear Joe — as I read and reread your last letter and realized your true devotion for me, I was made to realize more than ever what a treasure I possessed. I surely do appreciate such a friend, (yes it is more than a friend) every day, and hope that I may be able to show that appreciation although I do not believe I have the power to express it that you possess. Did you ever find the lost money? Has Prof. Smith left Ada? I do not know whether to send to him there or to Pa. I must close to send this with the noon mail.
May the Holy Spirit guide you in all your thoughts.
Pray for me
Lovingly
Bertha Lambert.
