Dear brothers and sisters:
All know the story of the old home- how mother was taken away and one came in to take her place, and how well she did her part for so many years in making a good home for father. We know too of how father was taken and now mother (Maggie) has come to the place where she no longer has resources of her own for her support. Her son, Will has been informed as to her situation but it now appears that we cannot depend upon that source for support.
We know that for many years mother cared for grand-mother Harris, and so far as we know received no remuneration for all her efforts. Some of us have conferred together and as it now appears we believe something like the following will be the best solution of the situation. In her present state of health it appears to us that something like $25 a month will be necessary to supply her needs. No one of course knows how soon sickness or disability may change the situation so that more will be required.
For the present we suggest the following: that each of us send monthly (or at such time as may suit our convenience) such amount as may be necessary to care for the above named amount. We suggest that the money be sent to one of our number who will keep a correct statement of the amount each one sends and pay to mother about a certain amount each month.
For several months some of us have been taking care of the situation the best we could but now feel that the opportunity should be given for all to have a part. Should there be more money come in than will be necessary to meet her needs we suggest that the surplus be placed in a fund to meet future emergencies.
The above is only an outline of suggestions and if you have any other plan or suggestion please write at once and such suggestions will have careful consideration. We suggest that our offerings come in so we can send the money to her about the first of each month beginning with November. Kindly write soon as to what you think of the matter.
Sincerely and affectionately,
{J. H. Harris / L. D. Harris}
P.S. I suggest that since Leonard is quite permanently located that he act as secretary-treasurer. His address is 29 West Lincoln St. Westerville, Ohio. If you think any one else should serve be free to make the suggestion. I am gone so much that I do not think it wise for me to serve.
