Context

Mrs. Mary Ewing 1271 Hereford Road Cleveland Heights Cleveland, Ohio Lamberts lived in our neighborhood. At one time 6 farms of Grandmother (widow) Lambert's family joined in Morgan Co. near Chesterhill. Aunt Mary's Edgerton, ours (Reece), Elizabeth Endicott's, Aunt Hannah Fawcett, Abner Lambert's & Daniel Lambert. Father went to Belmont Co. near St. Clairsville to marry Lydia Hanson, my mother. She was one of fourteen children of staunch Quaker parentage too, as was father. I knew mother's three sisters, Lilphia Ewers, Susan Endicott, and Deborah Stanton. Deborah married 3 times (no divorces). Once her name was Bailey, once Bundy. I remember about all those step children of hers. As I think about now I wonder how mother and her sisters got the education they had in those days. Mother was a leader in community reform work & assisted in literary programme & wrote compositions for Sunday School & Farmer's Institute. She lived 81 years. Nine of her 10 brothers were grown to manhood. 2 I knew, Elijah & Iddo lived and raised their families in the vicinity of the Lamberts in Morgan Co. Ohio. 2 of the oldest died in the revolutionary war, one in prison south (the story of them was deeply impressed on my mind when a child). I remember mother & father going to the funeral of one Benjamin (Bennie) in Belmont Co. somewhere. He left a widow & 4 daughters including twins one Berlie & one Berne, one was an artist. She visited in our home. She had adopted Catholicism and I recall mother's apprehension of that at that time. My memory is not good but I have exercised it trying to bring this much to you. Thank you for the Christmas nuts. Their flavor is so better than the ones we buy. With love for you and yours, Aunt Mayme
