Dear Elinor,
Thank you for talking with me on the telephone the other day. As I mentioned to you at that time, I am working on a book about my father, Paul Joseph Harris. I am attempting to locate any information that would help me document his rather brief period of attendance at Northwestern University in Evanston.
Paul Joseph Harris came to Northwestern University in the fall of 1926, having completed three years of teaching speech and dramatics at Piqua High School, Piqua, Ohio. He was probably accompanied by his wife, Beatrice Althea (Rice), and his daughter, Patricia June, who was two years old at that time. University directory records lists his residence as 618 Church Street, Evanston, Illinois, as well as listing his parents‘
address in Westerville, Ohio.
He enrolled as a graduate student in the Department of Speech and attended during the 1926-1927 school year. I am only aware of the follow credits during that time:
Assistant Director, under Alexander Dean, for the North Shore Theater Guild production of "Autumn Fire," presented November 10-18, 1926.
Production Director, under Vance Morton, of the "All University Vodvil," January 14, 15, & 19, 1927, in Annie May Swift Hall.
Technical Director for a Prentice Players production of "Twelfth Night," presented February 23 and March 2 & 4, 1927 at Annie May Swift Hall.
Any references to Paul Harris or any of his work that you may stumble across in any scrapbook, photographs of the above mentioned productions, or correspondence that might reference him would be unbelievably appreciated. Please feel free to contact me with the enclosed stamped self-addressed envelope or at the telephone number listed above.
Sincerely,
Paul J. Harris, Jr.
