Context

[Westerville, Ohio, Jun 4 1895 to Mr. J. H. Harris, Box 479, Ada, Ohio] Westerville O, June 3, '95 Mr. Harris Ada O. Dear Joe:- Your very welcome letter just rec'd and read through twice already. It found me still trying to cool myself. I was relieved to know that you got through all right and pleased to know that you enjoyed your visit so well although I can not see where the "royal entertainment" came in. But I must say I enjoyed it immensely. Sat. was quite a warm day for Ex. work but I did not feel very tired until I arrived at home. I did not try to get through for the street car. I finished my work about 4 o'clock, then did some shopping and came home on the six train. I slept about ten hours Sat. night and arose feeling pretty well over my night's sleep. Sun. I attended S.S. & preaching in the forenoon and in the afternoon listened to Miss Groendyke speak to the Volunteer Band. What power in her words, they seem to come from the very depths of her heard. On Sun. evening I attended Children's Day services. I can not see where you have any time to get lonesome. I saw the notice in the Herald this morning and thought it looked quite nice. The people here have it published also. Carrie's "point" came over Sun. (he lives about eight miles from here). About the first thing he said was that he heard father & mother were bothe away and you had been here. It was remarked by one of the girls here in town this morning, that she thought it a little doubtful about me being in school next year. I wonder what people take me for any how. I guess it is the nature of people to be interested in other people's affairs. But I hope to live to prove tho them that I am not what they take me to be. Tues. Morning - I have spent all the moorning in society work, practicing with the glee club, selling tickets for the banquet [...] and just think, I have to give a toast at the banquet, and because my "point" is not here I will have to take one of my brothers. Carrie thanks you for your remembrance of her, but she says that she thought she was putting up that lunch for me, and was not trying to fix it up in style. How about it? That ice cream was good but would have been lots better if you had been there. We rec'd word that Mother got through all right on Fri. Three of her brothers from the west were there & one sister from Pa. With your letter I rec'd one from my friend Miss Adams, she will be here Thur. if nothing prevents. Her brother will bring her over in the buggy. Ira returned home yesterday about noon having enjoyed a lovely trip. If I were not busy I do not know how I would put in the tie, the girls say I do not seem like I did a few days ago. I will surely not care how soon you make another visit like that. I hope it did not throw you back much in your work. I only wish I might fan you but I fear you would not study much if I were there so I think it best to remain here. Do not study too hard this warm weather. No more this time. Your own true one Bertha Lambert
